One of the wonderful things about filming weddings is that we are invited to travel to places all over the world that we might never have thought of visiting otherwise! Now, the USA, of course, is full of marvellous cities and landscapes and a very popular travel destination, but to be honest we hadn’t ever thought about going to El Paso, TEXAS! However, we are always up for discovering a new place and believe everywhere in the world is interesting and beautiful. A quick online search and we became very excited about this trip! The adventure did not disappoint!!!
Filming the couple in the White Sands Desert became the highlight of the film we think! The beauty and vastness of the desert is incredible. (Everywhere in the USA seems so immense compared to the UK, and driving around just being able to see the horizon all around is such an experience for me!). We extended our stay a little and were introduced so some local culinary delights by our good friend Stephane Lemaire, the photographer, who is French, but now lives in the US. The city of El Paso itself is also a fascinating place, since it is situated right on the border with Mexico. In fact, it is so close, it is practically one city; El Paso to the north and Ciudad Juarez to the south. One of the main roads travels along the border, and you can see buildings on either side. A curious statistic: El Paso was named the second safest large city in the nation in 2017, while Juarez is listed as one of the most dangerous. We also visited the Carlsbad Caverns, in the neighbouring state of New Mexico and on our way home experienced a little of Los Angeles, including Venice and Manhattan beaches and even drove up to Joshua Tree National Park!
Ok, back to the wedding: One incredibly handsome couple with a beautiful story, marrying in the hometown of the groom. Catherine and Christopher are the awesome pair who invited us to film their wedding in El Paso. These two are both architects, and the bride’s preps were held in their house, which is strikingly designed - one of our favourite shots is when Catherine comes down the stairs in her dress. Our highlights film also features their beautifully written and charmingly read personal vows. The film is full of the amazing desert scenery, as well as delightful moments. Friends and relatives gathered from all over the world, including Venezuela, The Canary Islands, and The Middle East, and there was a wonderful blend of American and Lebanese traditions too! Check out the party vibe animated by an amazing band brought over all the way from Lebanon!
Our thanks also go to Veronica Valles and the team from Imagine Event Planners.
This was definitely one of the highlights of the year for us! It was an amazing adventure that we are very proud about being part of.
